New HMPE Boom Wires for UK-93

VCU has supplied and installed new HMPE boom wires on board the UK-93. In addition, the existing boom blocks have been replaced with new units fitted with stainless steel sheaves. With these upgrades, the rigging is fully prepared for the upcoming fishing trips and meets the requirements for safe and reliable operations on board.

Choosing HMPE boom wires offers several advantages over traditional steel wire. Their significantly lower weight reduces the load at the top of the boom, contributing to improved vessel stability. This not only enhances the vessel’s overall performance but also creates a safer and more comfortable working environment on deck. The lighter boom wires are easier to handle, reducing the physical strain on the crew when operating the rigging.

To further extend the service life of the new HMPE boom wires, new boom blocks fitted with stainless steel sheaves were installed at the same time. The smooth running surface reduces friction during operation, minimising wear on the boom wires. As a result, the wires remain in excellent condition for longer, while the reliability of the entire rigging system is enhanced.

With these upgrades, the UK-93 is once again equipped with a durable and reliable rigging system that contributes to safe and efficient operations on board. By investing in high-quality materials and professional installation, the vessel and its crew are well prepared for the upcoming fishing trips.
