Twin-rig fishing involves the use of two nets that are deployed overboard from the stern of the vessel.
The two nets are connected to each other horizontally. At the outer ends of the nets, there are otter boards, and in the center, where the nets are joined, a central weight is attached. As the rubber cables are dragged behind the otter boards, clouds of sediment are stirred up, startling the fish and causing them to swim into the nets.
This fishing method is primarily used to catch plaice. For twin-rig fishing, VCU Maritime offers everything needed to equip your vessel for this technique. This includes otter boards, central weights, rubber cables, and the nets themselves.
