VCU Maritime has developed a new squid net that significantly improves catch efficiency. Thanks to a smart design adjustment, the net opens up to 30% wider than traditional models, greatly increasing the catch surface area. This innovation was achieved without abandoning the proven basic principle of the net, meaning the new design is suitable for both 4-sided and 2-sided configurations.
The updated squid net is also suitable as an upgrade for existing nets, making it immediately deployable on board current fishing vessels. The technical development has been fully completed in 2D and 3D, and the first production run has been successfully completed. The first net is ready for use and will be deployed in the upcoming squid season.
